Exploring Richmond's History

On Labor Day we explored Richmond and Civil War History. Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy and so there is a lot of historical sites nearby. We went to the two Civil War Museums at the old Tredegar Iron Factory. It was really interesting to learn more about the Civil War and then explore the grounds.

We then went to Belle Isle. Belle Isle used to house a civil war prison and then an old factory. Now its just a recreational isle with walking paths and a great view of the James River. The James River has all these incredible rocks (they used to do white water rafting here) and then a view of the Hollywood Cemetary - an old civil war cemetary. We didn't get to the cemetary because we had to eat lunch and then my parents had to catch their flight out. We'll get to see it soon though.
